Everything was going well, then he ghosted me: the astrology behind sudden silence

Misha✨

Sometimes, a relationship appears to be moving in the right direction. The conversations are regular, the attraction is mutual, and there is talk of meeting again. You begin to imagine where things might go. Then, almost overnight, the messages stop. No argument, no explanation, not even a proper goodbye.

I hear variations of this story so often that it has become one of the most familiar patterns in relationship readings. What makes it particularly painful is the uncertainty. You are left wondering whether you misunderstood the connection, said something wrong, or became attached to someone who was never serious.

From a Vedic astrology perspective, there are several planetary combinations worth examining when a relationship begins intensely and then fades without warning.

When attraction arrives before clarity

Rahu’s influence on Venus (Shukra), the fifth house of romance, or its lord can sometimes correspond with relationships that develop quickly and feel unusually compelling. There may be constant communication, intense curiosity and a sense that something extraordinary is unfolding.

Yet attraction and emotional availability are two different things. Someone can enjoy the excitement of getting to know you without being ready to build a relationship.

Rahu can symbolise fascination and uncertainty in astrological interpretation. When it influences relationship factors, I look at the rest of the chart before drawing conclusions about a person’s capacity for commitment.

When communication suddenly changes

Mercury (Budha) represents communication, while the third house is associated with messages, exchanges and everyday contact. Connections involving Mercury, Rahu, Ketu or Saturn (Shani) can be worth examining when communication becomes inconsistent, distant or difficult to understand.

Sometimes the change is gradual. Replies become shorter, conversations lose their warmth, and the person who once initiated contact begins responding only when convenient.

Other times, the silence is abrupt.

However, no planetary combination can establish why a particular person stopped replying. Astrology can help explore relationship patterns and timing, but the actual reason may lie in their circumstances, priorities, emotional maturity or willingness to communicate honestly.

The difference between romance and commitment

One of the most important distinctions I make while examining a birth chart is the difference between the fifth house and the seventh house.

The fifth house relates to romance and attraction; the seventh house concerns partnership and marriage. A chart may show strong romantic potential without equally clear indications of lasting partnership.

Venus influenced by Rahu, a connection between the fifth house and the twelfth house, or difficult links involving the seventh lord may be worth studying alongside the entire chart. Saturn’s influence can also bring caution, delays or a more complicated approach to commitment.

But these are factors to interpret together, not isolated verdicts. A single placement cannot tell us that someone will ghost you, cheat on you or refuse marriage.

Sometimes, the timing tells a different story

There are times when the birth chart alone does not explain why a relationship changed at a particular moment. This is where I examine the Vimshottari dasha and relevant transits.

A Venus, Rahu, Ketu or Saturn period may activate relationship themes already present in the chart. Transits can coincide with periods of attraction, uncertainty, withdrawal or important decisions.

Sometimes, the underlying relationship pattern is visible in the birth chart, but the dasha and transits help explain when it becomes prominent. That distinction matters.

A difficult period does not automatically mean a relationship must end, just as a favourable period cannot guarantee commitment. The full chart, the Navamsa (D9), the running dasha and the circumstances on the ground all deserve consideration.

What relationship readings have taught me

Over time, I have noticed how often people come to astrology looking for answers after someone suddenly withdraws. They want to know whether the connection was genuine, whether the person will return, or whether they missed something in their chart.

Sometimes, the chart offers useful insight into the timing and recurring patterns. At other times, the most revealing factor is the difference between what a person says they want and what they are actually prepared to offer.

This is why I never look at one planet and declare that a relationship is doomed. I examine the birth chart, the Navamsa, the running dasha and the relevant transits together. Sometimes, the dasha and transits explain why a particular period became difficult, even when the broader relationship potential appears different.

Astrology can help us examine the timing and patterns surrounding a relationship. It cannot tell us with certainty what another person is thinking or why they chose to disappear. That part still requires honesty, communication and accountability.
